Americana - Long String Hawkers + Hopperstomp Jug Band

Back

Americana

Expect a joyous evening this Friday at St Harmonica’s Blues Club when the music becomes more acoustic and roots based with two bands sharing the billing.

Hopperstomp are a new addition but consist of seasoned musicians from the local scene. John Crowther provides vocals, mandolin and also blows the jug alongside Ruth Mignano’s vocals, ukulele, harmonica and accordian and Dave Buckwell’s guitar bass and vocals. All this exuberance is underpinned by the percussion skills of Pete Abernethy and the odd, inescapable kazoo. Hopperstomp bring you jug-band inspired sounds which will have you tapping al sorts of body parts with a big smile on your face.

They’ll be followed by James Daniell’s band, The Long String Hawkers, who collectively purvey a brand of lively Americana, bluegrass, New Orleans rhythm & blues, and the occasional backwoods gospel hoedown. Songs about heartbreak, trains, and less-than-perfect life choices. Songs ranging from Pokey LaFarge to Tom Waits, as well as one or two of their own tunes. Music to move you and make you move.
